New Delhi - In the wake of India's concern over harassment and killing of its fishermen in maritime waters with Sri Lanka, New Delhi and Colombo on Sunday decided to put in place practical arrangements to address the issue. As per the arrangements, Sri Lanka will identify "sensitive areas" in its maritime waters which should be avoided by Indian fishermen, who would have to carry I-cards issued by the Tamil Nadu government and their vessels should possess permits.

Task Force 1 spearheads Kilinochchi battlefront ; moves in-between A9 and A32

SRI LANKA-The Army Task Force 1 , operating on the western half of the Kilinochchi battle frontage has taken the lead of the advance, moving about 5 km northwards from the Manniyakulam -Therumurikkandi road.

Troops of 582 brigade, launched an offensive on Sunday (Oct 26) morning to clear the LTTE hiding areas in the Nochchimodai area , and were able to extend their forward boundaries to the North of Kunchchikulam by the same evening. Troops have continued their operation on Monday and have been able to further extend their boundaries after giving heavy beating to the terrorists.

According to the battlefield reports received so far, troops have found 3 bodies of slain LTTE cadres along with 3 T-56 riffles during search operations.

Nochchimodai is situated on the land mass immediately west to the Kilinochchi built up and on the middle of the 20 km stretch separating Mannar- Pooneryn (A32) road and the Jaffna- Kandy (A9) road. Following fierce gun battle, troops engaged in Wanni offensive operation gained total control over the Gajabapura area inflicting heavy damages to the terrorists, defence sources further said.
