LTTE is the main obstacle to freedom of Tamils -- Media Minister
SRI LANKA-The LTTE is the main obstacle in bringing freedom to the Tamil community, Minister of Media Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said. Defeating terrorism is the first step of brining freedom to the Tamil community, he observed, adding that the present Government has taken a bold step in this regard under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. "Terrorism has been wiped out from the Eastern Province and democracy has been restored; it is the due responsibility of the present Government to bring freedom to the Northern masses as well," he said.
Referring to the stipulations in the 2009-Budget, Minister Abeywardena noted that the increasing of cess was done to strengthen local industrialists and encourage local production.
