However, Emirates airlines will continue to serve Sri Lanka with 17 weekly flights to Colombo, connecting the country's travelers to 100 global destinations via Dubai. This verdict has been returned by the Supreme Court on a request by the President to seek a SC determination on Lanka’s stand vis-a-vis the legal enshrinement of human rights, Export Promotion and International Trade Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris told the weekly Cabinet press briefing.

Navy saves lives of 71 foreigners lost in the North Eastern Sea

SRI LANKA-Sri Lanka Navy sailors today rescued 71 people who were lost in the sea onboard a wooden trawler, drifting 150 nautical miles off Mullaithivu. The group of victims are comprised of 50 Myanmar nationals and 21 Bangladesh nationals.

According to the Navy sources, the boat has been drifting since 20th February as it had met with an engine failure. During this time 20 people, including 17 Myanmar nationals and 3 Bangladesh nationals said to have died due to starvation and dehydration, the sources said. www.defence.lk
