India should pressurise Sri Lanka to declare ceasefire: Vaiko

India should pressurise Sri Lanka to declare a ceasefire and ensure food supplies to the suffering Tamils there, MDMK leader Vaiko said on Monday.

It is for Colombo to declare a ceasefire as the LTTE had announced unilateral truce for 30 days and extended it by another 30 days, he told reporters after meeting External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee here.

The MDMK leader alleged the Sri Lankan government has launched a "misinformation" campaign about large scale killing of LTTE cadres.

Alleging that abduction and killing of innocent Tamils has become the order of the day in military operations, he said India should ensure supply of food and medicines to the suffering Tamils through International Red Cross.

Vaiko said he apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the situation earlier. The Hindu
