LTTE has forcibly enlisted 8000 students - Army spokesman
SRI LANKA-Army spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara says that intelligence wings have reported that the LTTE has forcibly enlisted the students who sat for the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination in Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu districts and they are being given weapon training now.
Around 8000 students sat for the Ordinary Level examination this year from these two districts. He said that the intelligence wings had reported that all of them had been forcibly enlisted. The Army spokesman revealed these facts at the press briefing held in the Media Center for National Security today (24).
He said that the Army had recruited 10,298 new personnel since last October. Plans are underway to recruit personnel to the Commando and Special Force regiments since January. He further said that the closing date for the recruitment of personnel to the Kanthi Women’s Corps will be January 31. Lanka-e-News
