Pakistan wishes to expand ties with Sri Lanka: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan wishes to further expand the existing cordial friendly ties with Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on trade and defence cooperation fields. The PM was talking to the outgoing High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Wijeratne Bandra Dorakumbura, who paid a farewell call on him at the PM House on Wednesday.
The PM appreciated the role of the High Commissioner in strengthening Pakistan-Sri Lanka relations. He fondly recalled his recent visit to Colombo to participate in the 15th Saarc Summit during which he had very useful meetings with Sri Lankan president, prime minister and the speaker of the national assembly.
The PM said Pakistan supports the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka. He hoped that lasting peace would soon be achieved in the country. The high commissioner termed Sri Lanka as the friend of Pakistan. He thanked the PM for the complete cooperation of the Government of Pakistan in discharge his duties as high commissioner and conveyed the best wishes of Sri Lankan president and prime minister. He also extended an invitation on behalf of the Sri Lankan government to the prime minister to visit Sri Lanka.-International The News
